MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes announced Tuesday that they have acquired American defensive lineman Julian Howsare from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, along with the best seventh-round pick of Hamilton in the 2027 CFL Canadian Draft. In return, Hamilton receives Montreal's fifth-round pick in the 2027 CFL Canadian Draft.
Howsare has played 15 games with the Tiger-Cats this season, recording 32 defensive tackles, four sacks and three knockdowns. The 34-year-old has been playing in the CFL since 2018.
Since the beginning of his career, the Altoona, Pennsylvania native has played 133 career games in the CFL, including six seasons with Hamilton and two seasons with Calgary.
The Clarion University alumnus has been named to the All-CFL Team once (2025) and to the East Division All-CFL Team twice (2022, 2025). In 2025, he was also nominated for the league's Most Outstanding Defensive Player award.
“We just acquired an all-star player who is capable of giving opposing offences a hard time,” said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia. “Julian knows the league, and we are extremely pleased to have acquired his services. This type of player will be valuable to us in the coming weeks as we enter the final stretch of the season.”
“Julian Howsare has meant a great deal to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, both as a player and as a person,” said Orlondo Steinauer, President of Football Operations. “Across two stints with our organization, Julian gave us everything we asked of him and more, and was a true professional in every sense of the word. We have tremendous respect for Julian and know he’s going to do great things in his next chapter. Thank you, Julian.”
