HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Friday that franchise quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping the future Hall of Famer in Black and Gold through the 2028 season.

With a full recovery from the ankle injury that interrupted his season, Mitchell is looking ahead to the 2027 and 2028 seasons with renewed energy and determination. The two-time Grey Cup champion and two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player’s decision to extend in Hamilton reflects his belief in the organization, his connection to the city and his confidence in what the Tiger-Cats can accomplish together.

“I love this team, this locker room and this city. Being sidelined this year only reinforced how much I want to be out there competing with these guys,” Mitchell said. “I’m close to being fully recovered, recharged and excited about what’s ahead. I believe we have the people and the commitment to win here, and I am committed to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”

Mitchell’s return comes with several key pieces of the Tiger-Cats offence already signed for 2027, including receivers Kenny Lawler, Kiondré Smith, Keric Wheatfall and Kurleigh Gittens Jr. During his tenure in Hamilton, Mitchell has led some of the CFL's most prolific offences, was the East Division's Most Outstanding Player in both 2024 and 2025, and was the CFL's leading passer in 2026 before his injury, completing 78 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and just one interception.

“Our commitment to Hamilton is to give this city a team it can be proud of and a team that can win championships. That starts with great players and strong leaders who share that goal,” said Orlondo Steinauer, Hamilton Tiger-Cats President of Football Operations.

“Since Bo arrived four years ago, he’s continued to work, compete and lead at a high level. He’s been a great teammate, has earned the respect of everyone in our organization and has embraced the Hamilton community. We’re proud to have him continue to lead us. His decision to stay, along with other key members, reflects the belief in what we’re building and the continued commitment from ownership to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”

Since arriving in Hamilton in 2023, Mitchell has brought the experience and competitive approach developed over one of the CFL’s most accomplished careers. His preparation, command of the offence and influence in the locker room make him an important part of the club’s future.

Mitchell’s commitment is backed by one of the most accomplished résumés in CFL history. A two-time Grey Cup champion, two-time Grey Cup MVP and two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player, he has led the league in passing yards twice and touchdown passes four times. His 45,426 career passing yards rank eighth in CFL history, alongside 271 touchdown passes and a 112-48-2 record as a starting quarterback.
